Our copy editor and proofreader, Brie did a proofreading subject at uni summer school (five short days instead of 13 weeks, yes please!) and she unexpectedly nailed it. The exam paper went on the fridge and everything. This was the first time she realised that she wasn't just someone who gets annoyed by the carrot's sign in vegie shop, and that her skill has commercial value.

When Brie was fresh out of uni, she scored a Proper Job at a subsidiary of David Jones called Foodchain. It was part DJ’s Food Hall and part Woolworths Metro - way back before Metro was a thing. The marketing team was short-handed and asked Brie to give a catalogue a quick look over. She noticed things like a product barcode, not the logo, facing the camera. They’d shot the back of the bottle. Sub-optimal. They'd also used the word compliment, instead of complement. But the idea of the dressing saying nice things about the salad still makes her laugh.

She checked all the collateral from then on. And now here she is; being a total nerd, and copy editing and proofreading for
a job!
